Today’s visitors expect a personalized experience. When coming to new places, visitors are increasingly seeking out what is unique and tailored, be it a longer vacation or a daytrip. One of the reasons is that we live in an attention economy – a society in which we are constantly navigating an abundance of impressions and information. Naturally, our attention is limited and we use it to filter what is important. To stand out it is therefore essential to offer a tailored approach to visitors, displaying high quality, enthusiasm and a technological know-how.

Personalization – What is it and how to do it?

Most people don’t want to waste time running around hunting out tourist attractions or restaurants when they come to a new place. Likewise, they do not want to be bombarded with too much information, which leaves them confused, exhausted or overwhelmed. Perzonalisation means improving the experience by offering tailored content that meets the visitor’s needs, behaviour and wishes.

Studies show that we use mobile apps substantially and our phones are our go-to for answering whatever question we may have, in particular when it comes to travel and what to do when coming to a new place. Given our affinity for our phones, it seems that a mobile app is the natural way to offer visitors a personalised experience. It’s simple for the user and effective for the tourist destination.

Apps that tailor the experience

Visitors can use OnSpotStory’s apps to tailor their experience according to their needs and wishes, both before and during a visit. We are currently working on a function that enables the visitor to create their own tour through smart and intuitive filtering. Examples of filters could be proximity, how much time a visitor has and what their interests are. As a result they are shown events and interesting places that suit them and can then create their own journey. In the same way, if a user is unsure of what they want to do the app will offer curated suggestions.

If you want to know more about the new feature don’t hesitate to get in touch.  We’d love to hear what you think.
